Where We’ve Been

What started in 2013 as an answer to a call to rebuild youth cycling in Connecticut became a movement.

I discovered cycling as a teenager and couldn’t be more grateful. I was incredibly fortunate to get connected to responsible mentors that would coach me along in my first few years of the sport. I discovered a welcoming community of diverse individuals, mentors who would guide me as an athlete and a competitor, and, more importantly, into the person I am today. I learned lessons about sportsmanship, humility, knowing how to train for your wins, and learning from your losses and mistakes. I am beyond thankful for the experiences and lifelong friends I have made over the past 20 years.

Many kids and families may not have the good fortune to be connected to mentors in the community. Many parents don’t know where to turn when their child voices interest in the sport of cycling. That’s where CCAP comes in. We need a way to make sure that kids and their families have access to the sport in a similar way to other youth sports. The CCAP was created to take care of the coaches, the equipment, the education, and open the doors with that same community welcome that I was given when I was 15. The CCAP's goal is to help provide access to the sport of cycling and support a new generation of junior cyclists and aspiring coaches who will guide the generation after them. Our mission is to give those kids and coaches a future in the sport and do so in a sustainable and accessible way to anyone interested.

While this mission may have its challenges, it’s far from impossible. In fact, over two-thirds of our country’s youth have access to a bicycle - that means the hardest part is already over: getting kids access to bikes. For those that don’t have access to a bicycle, we provide one. It’s as simple as that. I hope that, through the CCAP, more kids have the chance to find a lifelong passion, one that builds character and helps them be successful in all aspects of life. With your help, I hope that we get both the chance and the privilege to shape the next generation of the community that I love.

Thank you for helping us get more kids on bikes.

David Hoyle
1985-2019

Dave Hoyle loved riding bikes. His passion for his own riding and racing was exceeded only by his desire to share that passion with kids. He dedicated his life to coaching young cyclists and creating opportunities for them to ride and race themselves.

He accomplished much in a few short years, and his devotion to cycling, Connecticut, and the kids will live on. Dave always focused on the kids, and he never held back from providing a word or gesture of support to any young rider.

Dave’s love was his family and friends, most of all his wife, Nicole. His heart and soul were truly dedicated to helping make the world a better place. We are blessed to have known him and will never forget his positivity and kindness.

As we move forward, Dave will forever be in our hearts. #RideLikeDave
